Art Institute of Chicago and Millenium Park

I have always wanted to put the kids in some of the free classes over at the Art Institute. Max is now old enough to participate in the Mini Masters classes with Maddie, so I signed them up for July 18th's "Day Dreams" class. When we arrived, the kids played with open ended activities around the room, and looked through books. They began the class with an interactive story time, then went on a gallery walk and discussion, and finished up with an art project. They made dream shaker shadow boxes. They loved everything about this class. We love the Art Institute!

Millennium Park is another part of the city that has become something amazing while we have been away. How could you not love the fun house mirrored Bean (Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate) or the interactive water sculptures (Jaume Piensa's Crown Fountain) to play in on a hot day? Especially when you see grown men, stripped down to their drawers, joining in the fun. Actually, I could do without that part, but all in good fun. The summer programming is phenomenal too. Free music classes from Old Town School of Folk music every morning, free arts and crafts tent every day- with a new theme every week. We made the Jelly Fish necklaces sponsored by the Shedd Aquarium. We were also stalked by a guy on stilts. Can you see him?
